Abstract Brochure Design: The brief for this project was to interview another student and create an abstract visual representation of their identity based on the interview. The brochure includes three statements that embody the essence of the interviewee's story, distilled further into a single word: "Discover." The interview was private, but her story conveyed how she discovered herself and what is important in her life, rich with imagery of how her environment changed during her journey of self-discovery. She mentioned motifs such as the nightclubbing scene, reading novels, coffee shops and drinking orange juice in the morning.
Life Cycle Calendar: For this project we were given a shape, text, and an objective to create a calendar that incorporates those elements. I chose the branching arched shape, to try to create an abstract visual of an “environment” or “place of belonging”. for the calendar I wanted this to be interactive, so the user could place stickers on the dots to track the weeks of the year. I feel I was somewhat successful meeting the design brief, however I greatly dislike this project.
Ripple Co. Installation
For this project we worked as a team to create a fake company called Ripple Co. whose mission was to educate and advocate about water conservation in the bay area. Our name was based on the idea that a small action can create a large ripple. I only included my contributions to the project here.
These sketches are of my logo design ideations, none of which were selected by the group. The next two pages are my ideas for the inside of the installation. I was strongly advocating for an interactive installation using light, projectors, and recycled HDPE from milk bottles.
Final Installation:
I modeled this in Maya, the concept is for the building to have a very organic shape, similar to a cloud, or water. The building would be responsive to passerby’s, as someone gets near the building, the section nearest to them would light up, rippling out to other parts of the building. I wanted to use HDPE cones and LED’s to coat the surface, so In my model I created a cylindrical voxel and coated my building.
Final Booklet:
I designed this booklet to showcase all my work from this class. I felt the theme of all my projects was a very organic, flowing design, so I tried to incorporate that in my cover design. For the start of each section I created a pattern that I felt represented that project.
